August 9th Edition Bryan Anderson's thumpin' bass gave The Waters of Wylie a new funky pulse!
It just keeps getting better ... and better ... and better folks!July was filled with delicious musical delightsand a cove filled with happy boaters! The Wiggle Wagons layin' down the law....The Wiggle Wagons who were awarded Bessie's Choice Moo-sicians of the Season for 2010 and are playing all shows of Season 2 Here they are in July doin' some of what they do best...... WHO WILL WIN BESSIE'S CHOICE FOR 2011?Got an opinion? Tell BessieBessie's Choice Moo-sicians of the Season is a special recognition of artistry and attitude, funk and fun...honorees are carefully selected by Bessie, the cow in charge of all that is frivolous and frolic-filled in The Cow Cove and all waters beyond!
Not sure how to enjoy Lake Wylie Music Fest? Here are some shining examples to follow......BE PLAYFUL! ....

GET CRAZY! ...
AND DON'T FORGET TO LISTEN! ...
Line-up this MonthThe School of Rock will teach us a thing or two!Don't know what that is? It's kids ... kids who know their stuff when it comes to rock 'n roll! Hot licks and cool grooves are what they study and the group performing for us has clocked lots of stage time and applause. Don't come looking for a kids show. Come prepared to ROCK! Square Roots will make the Finale of our Season Grande! On the other end of the evening is Square Roots who will rock and roll us out for the Season. Well-loved and much-heard on and around The Waters of Wylie, The Roots will undoubtedly give us a finale to remember. The band is currently putting finishing touches on a soon-to-be-released CD so look to hear some original tunes to entice you to grab it when it comes available! Dancing and Drumming!!Dancing around between 4 and dark-thirty, you'll get to see some little encore performances by Entrance Bellydance. We've had many requests for their return and so we've asked them to come wiggle in between musical sets and dance for us just as much as they possible can. While it won't be a full set, it'll be delicious! Also bouncing around throughout the event is our own Kennon Knight of Rhythm-Rhyme-Reason Drumming and Meditation (he's also that blur of hair beatin' the daylights out of his drums at the back of Square Roots, of course!) Kennon will get our hands thumping our boats and backsides with a Full Cove Drum Circle. As we always say, folks, EVERYONE DRUMS! And Everyone and Everything Else! The rest of this sweet line-up includes the return of Paul Finnican who many of you know from his Sylvia Theatre in York, SC. Paul learned from last year's heat and promises to jump in the river at some point before or after he plays! Another local singer-songwriter, Chris Hertz, follows Paul's set. Chris's laid-back and playful vibe will offer some refreshment to our Summertime sizzle. The Wiggle Wagons kick it after Chris showing Bessie once again that their heart belongs to her 4ever and a Charlotte ensemble, Little District, follows the WW. Little District promises to honor and match our river rat laid-backness and they remind us to find "A Place in the Shade" (as the title of one of their songs beckons!) Makin' the Scene Behind the ScenesPlease give a BIG round of applause and appreciation for Paul Noble's 3rd Wish Productions. Without Paul's expertise, equipment, devotion, and little crew of volunteers, Lake Wylie Music Fest would only be a quiet echo of what we've experienced. Hasn't the sound be terrific? We keep hearing raves about it! It's because we have a professional system with a talented engineer at the helm! You may not know it ....... but at 9am on the day of each Sunset Celebration, heavy sound equipment is loaded up from 3rd Wish Productions by 3 or 4 earlybird volunteers and then off-loaded (downhill from road to lake!) and set-up in The Cow Cove. Set-up and Sound Tests continue through the afternoon with few breaks in order to be ready for the first artist on stage at 4pm. That's 7 hours of work way before we officially begin! Then it's non-stop attention to detail for the sound crew until the last note's been played on stage and then the tear-down begins........! Paul is always truly behind the scenes and just out of camera range but we have this evidence of him at work: 3rd Wish Productions offers quality sound production, recording, and general guidance and consultation. You might call on them for a corporate or church event, to guide you in your own choice of sound production equipment, or to record your newly-written song! CONTACT 3rd Wish

Don't forget to do your No-Rain Dance this week! ...See ya Saturday!
July 7th Edition It's time for July's Sunset Celebration! This Saturday, July 9th in The Cow CoveLake Wylie Music Fest is played out in 3 parts ... 3 unique events we call Sunset Celebrations each on the 2nd Saturday evening of June, July, and August. Every month you get new music, fresh faces, and different energies within the same consistent format. This month's theme is "Chillin' in the Heat" since July definitely is sizzlin' hot and because we're bringing out a chill blend to cool ya down.....Saturday kicks off with a couple laid-back folksy sets. Singer-songwriter Rob McHale and Friends lead us into the music at 4pm followed by the folk duo The Cloers at 4:45pm. The next couple sets will surely ring in some old familiar tunes covered by solo act Ray'coustic at 5:30pm and then Lenny Loafer and the Lazy Rhythm Band at 6:15pm. This Year's Bessie's Choice recipients, The Wiggle Wagons, rule the stage at 7:15pm and, as the evening slows down, The Bryan Anderson Band will soothe the Waters down several degrees with some chill and funky instrumental tunes come sundown around 8:15pm.
New Sponsor!Lake Wylie Music Fest Appreciates Generous Support from Jason E. Taylor
After enthusiastically enjoying last month's Sunset Celebration, Jason Taylor decided he wanted to throw his support into Lake Wylie Music Fest with a most generous financial gift. THANKS JASON! And so today we welcome The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor to our growing diverse group of Fest Sponsors......Jason, known as The Litigator, is a North Carolina injury attorney whose practice "takes your needs personal" with a focus on "helping you overcome your injuries and protecting your rights." The Litigator with offices in Charlotte, Hickory, and Gastonia, can help with cases of nursing home abuse/neglect; wrongful death; individual auto/motorcycle, and commercial truck collisions; worker's comp and social security disability claims; and medical malpractice. For more information, TheLitigator.com
Please help! While we all love rain on our gardens, a Summer storm can curtail lake play and hold back Fest fun. So, if you have any special powers to keep foul weather away from this Saturday, please do a "no-rain dance!"(Everyone, - especially The Wiggle Wagons who keep getting rained-out on the Waters of Wylie, and our sound production crew who have gear to protect, - would surely appreciate it!)(Photo from Lake Wylie Music Fest June 11, 2011)
A little something from some of this month's artists......Please check out all of our performers on www.lakewyliemusicfest.com and follow links from their pages to whatever webpages and contact info is provided. Support all these amazing artists by purchasing their wares, hiring them for your events, and certainly with your strong applause and "boat-rattling!!!"Listen to some tunes with Rob McHale online ...Check out The Cloers online! Here are a couple videos ... YouTube#1 and YouTube#2. We understand they've got a new CD coming out - hopefully we'll learn more about that this weekend!Ray'coustic was lucky enough to have a gig on the water last weekend as well but seriously looks forward to returning to Lake Wylie Music Fest. Ray was a regular and "founding" musician throughout Season 1. This year his schedule is way busier now that he's playing with a full band.Lenny Loafer and the Lazy Rhythm Section just told us to tell you to "Look forward to a cruise through the rhythm and blues ... and be ready to DANCE!" The members of the band are from around the Lake Wylie area and having performed in Season 1, they look forward to once again being a part of Lake Wylie Music Fest. The Wiggle Wagons were with us last year and return for all 3 months this year as they were awarded "Bessie's Choice Moo-sicians of the Season" - chosen from Season 1 performers. Who will be Bessie's Choice for Season 2, 2011? You might get a vote. Look for information in future e-newsletters! Daniel emailed us "The WW's play about 50-60 shows a year but no venue or show can be compared to the unique audience, artists, and fun of Lake Wylie Music Fest! We're honored to once again be a part of this exciting and eclectic festival!"In a quick phone chat with Bryan Anderson today, Bryan shared "We're gonna be playing a mix of some of my original music from my CD's as well as some smooth jazz and some funky stuff too!" Bryan moved his family to Charlotte area 5 years ago from San Diego. Originally from Baltimore, Charlotte is a good location to be closer to family. We're glad to have Bryan in our neck of the woods!
Bring a Buck or Two & Be on the Lookout! This Saturday, a LWMF volunteer will be out selling colorful LAKE WYLIE MUSIC FEST armbands. Be on the lookout and hail them to your boat to make your contribution to the Fest. $1 each!
June 20 Edition Kick off to Summer!June 11th was truly a beautiful day for the Fest! The heat was on and showers threatened but the water was refreshing, the attendance was amazing, and the music was exceptional! With the exception of missing out on more from The Wiggle Wagons when the rain actually did descend, it was an awesome day. Thanks to all who helped, created, performed, played, danced, imagined, and came out!Early Birds...About 2pm The Cow Cove started coming to life with boaters entering the cove and seeking out their own perfect Fest spot. By 3pm, the early birds got a bonus treat as an impromptu band formed from the volunteer ranks and entertained with some kickin' golden oldies as part of the sound check. Thanks guys for a truly special kick off to Summer 2011!Pop-up ShowersThere's a reason they call those things "pop-up"... cuz you never know when or where they might drop in on ya. But you also don't know when they WON'T! If you didn't come out on June 11th because you thought it might rain or because it was raining where you were, you missed out. It did rain...but that was about 8:20pm. Sadly, The Wiggle Wagons didn't get to play but one song due to the downpour but the entire rest of the day was drop-free! So, check the weather forecast, yes....but if it's pop-ups and isolated t-storms they're predicting, that's just a usual day for a Lake Wylie Summer. If it's hot, there's a pretty good chance something MIGHT pop up ... AND there's just as much chance that all may be clear. So, be safe, be wise, but don't miss out. We won't call things off until absolutely necessary.

Watch for them to shake their way in between acts for some unscheduled surprises next month and the next too. Just in case, cross your fingers that their schedules clear so they can make it out this way again!

Q & AQ ..... Where exactly is "The Cow Cove?"A .... The Cow Cove is a name used by a friendly handful of people to describe a portion of Boyd's Cove. It's a no-wake area that some boaters sometimes anchor and raft together. Just past the no-wake buoys going toward the back of Boyd's Cove Bessie sits overlooking the Waters of Wylie and so she's given her portion of water it's neighborly name. If you're not sure where Boyd's Cove is, check out the map below. Boyd's Cove is outlined in hot pink and the itsy-bitsy Bessie's head is sitting about where the dock that will be center stage is (and, sorry folks in the other covelet, Bessie's hind quarters seem to be covering you up!). .....You can ignore the letters A, B, and E which have to do with boat access areas.
And if you are so inclined, we think these are the coordinates...based on some Googling around... Latitude 35.086219 Longitude -81.036409
Q .... How much does this cost? Who makes this really cool and free event possible?A .... It's a FREE community event! With a small handful of dedicated creators, a smattering of volunteer effort, plus a few corporate and individual sponsors (see links to right,) Lake Wylie Music Fest was born in 2010. Much more support is needed to keep this innovative option available for the future. Please contact us to volunteer or contribute!
Q .... Is it "family-friendly?"A .... While the music selection and focus is primarily on adults partying on boats, there is no reason the whole family shouldn't attend. Just remember the fun flavor of Lake Wylie's "River Rats!"There's lots more info on www.lakewyliemusicfest.com including ARCHIVES of former e-news!
